Acha Precious Egwan: The "Techie and Nurse" Bringing Healthcare and Technology Together
By Let's Talk Tech · October 2026 · 6 min read
Acha Precious Egwan as a participant of 2024-2025 at Let's Talk Tech training
One week she is in an operating theatre, preparing for a caesarean section. Another week she is standing in front of a Let's Talk Tech class, teaching young people how to write better prompts for AI. Acha Precious Egwan calls herself a "techie and nurse", and she means both words.
Acha is a Level 400 Nursing and Midwifery student at the University of Bamenda. At Let's Talk Tech she started as a trainee in 2024 to 2025. By 2026 she was a facilitator, the Deputy Logistics Manager, and part of the team's medical support at its events.

A nurse who fell for tech
Acha, facilitator at Let's Talk Tech 2025 to 2026.
Her studies cover patient care, medical and surgical nursing, pharmacology, community health, health education and maternal and child health. Over time, clinical work taught her something she now repeats often: healthcare is not only about treating illness in hospitals. Prevention, education, clear communication and reliable information matter just as much.
That is where technology comes in. Acha has taught herself and trained in HTML, CSS and basic JavaScript, designs in Canva and Adobe tools, and has gone deep into artificial intelligence: prompt engineering, AI ethics, and using AI for branding and study.
Learning to care, on the ward
Collecting vital signs during a hospital placement.
A big part of nursing school happens away from the classroom. Acha has done three placements under professional supervision:
- St Blaise Hospital, Big Mankon: 15 weeks of hospital care, observation and nursing procedures
- Ntambang Integrated Health Center, Old Town: 12 weeks in primary healthcare
- Community health, Ntambang: 3 weeks of health education, outreach and prevention
Along the way she has gained exposure to a long list of procedures, from taking vital signs, wound dressing, suturing, suture removal, catheterization and cannulation to IV fluids and flow-rate calculations, burns care and infection prevention. She has also observed surgery, including a caesarean section, a herniorrhaphy and ectopic-pregnancy surgery.
Her health interests reach beyond the ward: youth health education, menstrual health and hygiene, maternal and child health, and getting reliable health information to people who need it. She has even thought about how sign language could help people who struggle to communicate with medical services.
Research and an AI study assistant
Acha's research question links her two worlds: "The Impact of Social Media Use on Mental Health Among Youths in Bamenda." For it she developed the abstract, background, problem statement, research questions, objectives and hypotheses.
She also has an idea she would like to build. As a busy student, she imagines an AI-powered study assistant that records lectures, turns them into notes, plans a study timetable, organizes assignments, sends reminders and creates flashcards and mnemonics for revision.
“Knowledge becomes more meaningful when it is applied to real-life problems and used to benefit other people.”
What Acha believes
From trainee to facilitator at Let's Talk Tech
As a participant in the 2024 to 2025 Let's Talk Tech training.
Acha first came to Let's Talk Tech as a trainee. She completed the one-month intensive training in graphic design, website design, custom book creation, introduction to cybersecurity, video editing, photography and editing, and AI usage, then a one-week field internship putting those skills to work.
She also took part in a one-day workshop on Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy in Bamenda in 2025, on responsible technology use and using media for positive impact.
She did not stay a trainee for long. She has worn the sash and crown of Mr and Miss Let's Talk Tech, and Let's Talk Tech has used her as the face of its social media designs.
Behind the scenes
Acha's official badge as Deputy Logistics Manager of Let's Talk Tech.
Today Acha is Let's Talk Tech's Deputy Logistics Manager, with medical-support and human-resource duties too. She has supported two trainings and the graduation events that follow them: organizing materials and venues, coordinating with the team, looking after participants, and stepping in on health and safety when needed.
Her lesson from that work: good training needs more than good teaching. It also needs planning, timing, resources and follow-up.
In front of the class
At the 2026 Let's Talk Tech training, which ran from 27 June to 26 August 2026, Acha was a facilitator. She led sessions on AI prompt engineering and on branding, and Let's Talk Tech gave her a Certificate of Appreciation for her expertise, dedication and contribution to the program.
Her tech toolkit
- Web development: HTML, CSS and basic JavaScript, with a focus on clear, accessible pages
- Graphic design: Canva and Adobe tools for flyers, logos, social media graphics, presentations and branding
- Artificial intelligence: prompt engineering, AI-assisted learning, AI for branding a business, and AI ethics (accuracy, privacy, bias, academic integrity and human judgment)
- Digital communication: using online platforms to educate, promote programs and reach young people
She wants young people to move from consuming technology to creating with it, and to learn not only what the tools can do but how to use them responsibly.
Awards and certificates
- 2nd place, 2024 Engineering National Olympiads (MIA Prepas), Certificate of Excellence
- Achidi-Abofong Foundation scholarship: a 50% reduction in registration fees at MIA NW for outstanding performance in the MIA 2024 National Olympiads
- Certificate of Appreciation as a Facilitator, 2026 Let's Talk Tech Training
- Certificate of Completion, Let's Talk Tech one-month intensive training and one-week internship
- Certificate of Participation, Digital Citizenship and Media Literacy workshop, Bamenda (2025)
Where she is heading
With Madam Ida Pih, CEO of BOLD.
Acha plans to finish her Nursing and Midwifery degree (expected 2027 to 2028), build strong clinical skills and possibly specialize. Alongside that she wants to grow her skills in web development, AI and digital health, and keep taking fellowships, internships, conferences and volunteer roles.
She believes young people should not be seen only as beneficiaries of programs. With skills, mentorship and support, they can build projects, careers and businesses, and solve problems in their own communities.
Her aim is simple to say and hard to do: show that healthcare and technology can work together to build healthier, better-informed communities.
