In 2024, a medical laboratory science student in Bamenda built a machine for making chocolate. That student, Fuhneba Peace, also draws, edits video, writes project proposals and keeps the data honest at Let's Talk Tech. His interests rarely appear on the same CV. He has spent years finding ways to connect them.

Peace is a final-year Medical Laboratory Science student at the University of Bamenda and the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at Let's Talk Tech, where he also teaches mobile videography, video editing and graphic design.

Peace's story starts with books. From around 2016 to 2019 he was part of the LitClub, a LitWorld and Global Glow program run by WESAD Cameroon (then WVED). It mixed reading, public speaking, gender equality and personal development, and introduced him to LitWorld's Seven Strengths.

He took part in several World Read Aloud Day events and won a medal of excellence in the 2019 reading challenge. More importantly, LitClub gave a teenager a place to speak up about education, equality and his community.

His 2018 International Children's Peace Prize nomination certificate.

In 2018, with WESAD's guidance, he was nominated for the International Children's Peace Prize for his youth advocacy and his work for peace and equal access to education. It was his first major recognition, and the belief behind it has stayed with him: young people need real chances to learn, take part and contribute.

Science, with a pencil in hand

Peace did well at school. He received the JESAM Excellence Award (Journée de l'Excellence Scolaire et Académique de la Mifi) in Bafoussam for his results at the GCE Ordinary Level (2021) and Advanced Level (2023). He then entered the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Bamenda to study Medical Laboratory Science, where lab work has given shape to a long fascination with the human body and how health works.

He never stopped drawing. Peace used to work as a pencil artist under the name Peaz Arts. He has since rebranded as Mi Studios to cover everything he now does: pencil drawing, digital illustration, graphic design, mobile videography and video editing. He has also experimented with animation and AI as creative tools.

The chocolate machine

Peace has always loved machines. In 2024 he designed and built a prototype chocolate conche for Miyaka Chocolate, a Bamenda startup, using materials and processes available locally. A conche is the machine that mixes and smooths chocolate, so this was a real piece of production equipment, not a school model.

Learning outside the classroom

  • In August 2020 he trained as a sexual and reproductive health peer educator through a MINJEC and CAMNAFAW program.
  • Around the same time he learned the basics of 2D and 3D animation on mobile with Teen World Empowerment (TWE), Ghana.
  • In 2024 he completed the NCSAPD annual paramilitary training in the North West Region and was chosen to give a speech on behalf of his fellow trainees.
  • He has worked for two years with Mr Brown Digital Space in text editing, design, printing services and basic equipment maintenance.

From poultry training to a funded farm

In September 2023 Peace took a poultry-farming course with Youth, Agriculture and Development (YAD) Cameroon. It turned out to be more than a course.

As co-founder and delegate of Smart Development Common Initiative Group, he led the project writing for a poultry initiative in 2025. The proposal won Mastercard Foundation funding through Global Health Solution Services (GHSS) Cameroon to set up a 200-bird farm, covering infrastructure, equipment, birds, feed and medication.

In 2025 Peace led Team WESAD at the UNFPA Cameroon youth jamboree, held for the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. The team won two categories.

  • Arts and Culture: Peace wrote and directed a narrative pantomime about digital violence against women, calling on people to use tech responsibly. He also made the team's drama costumes.
  • Technology/ICT: the team built the Digital Safety Audit and Rapid Response Mapping tool (DSARRM), which collects and maps anonymous violence reports so support organizations can protect GBV survivors. Peace built its KoboToolbox form. WESAD later pitched the tool formally to UNFPA.

Keeping the data honest at Let's Talk Tech

Tech moved to the center of Peace's work in 2025, when he trained and was certified in AI, graphic design and videography at Let's Talk Tech. In February 2026 he joined the team.

As Monitoring and Evaluation Officer he helps the team see how programs are running and what participants are really learning. That means digital data collection, attendance tracking, assessment design, data-quality checks and documentation.

During the 2026 summer program he ran KoboToolbox attendance systems with digital sign-in, sign-out and QR-code scanning. Real life got in the way: weak network, participants spelling their names differently, wrong GPS readings. He worked through those problems with the team in regular reviews, and helped adjust policies and training guidelines along the way.

In front of the class

Peace also teaches. He has facilitated sessions on mobile videography, storytelling, video editing and AI-assisted content creation, and assisted with graphic design lessons. He prefers practical exercises, so participants try a skill straight away instead of only hearing about it.

At the launch of the 2026 program he was asked to give the opening speech on behalf of the Programs Manager. He had not spoken to a large crowd in a while. He said yes and delivered it for the team, a quiet return to the skill he first built in LitClub.

Books, music and old cars

Reading still ties his past to his present. Peace has read more than 1,000 books across many genres, and he is drawn to stories about power, resilience and how societies work. George Orwell's 1984 and Pierce Brown's Red Rising saga are favourites. He also loves music, old cars and hiking.

“A jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.”

The saying Peace lives by

What's next

For now, the priority is finishing his BSc at the University of Bamenda. For his dissertation he hopes to research antimicrobial resistance in bacteria, one of the most serious problems in healthcare today.

After that he wants to keep growing in science, technology and community development, especially where science, digital tools and art can work together. He knows what access to education, mentors and training did for him, and he wants to create the same chances for other young people.
