During the 2025 Christmas holiday season, our team successfully organized the “Let’s Talk Tech: Creating Digital Bridges” training program in Bamenda, Cameroon. The initiative was designed to equip young people with practical digital skills that can help them create opportunities for themselves, earn an income, and become positive contributors to their communities.
The response to the training exceeded all expectations. When applications opened, more than 400 young people applied for a program that was originally designed for only 25 participants. The overwhelming interest showed a clear reality: many young people in Bamenda are eager to learn technology skills and are actively looking for opportunities that can help them build a better future.
Despite our limited resources, we expanded the program and trained 34 participants. More than sixty percent of the participants were young women, demonstrating the growing interest of women and girls in technology. The training also brought together people from different backgrounds, including students, unemployed youth, self-employed individuals, Christians, and Muslims. This created an environment where learning, collaboration, and mutual respect could flourish.

The training lasted for two weeks and combined technical skills with personal development lessons. During the first week, participants learned mobile videography, graphic design, and artificial intelligence. They discovered how to use their smartphones to create professional videos by understanding camera settings such as focus, lighting, and exposure. Many participants were surprised to learn that they did not need expensive equipment to create quality content.
In graphic design sessions, participants were introduced to important design principles such as color selection, balance, and typography. They also received practical training in Adobe Photoshop. For many of them, it was their first time using the software, but through step-by-step guidance, they quickly learned how to design flyers, posters, and promotional materials.
Another exciting part of the training focused on artificial intelligence and storytelling. Participants learned how technology becomes more powerful when combined with human creativity and storytelling. They were introduced to prompt engineering and learned how to communicate effectively with AI tools to generate content, develop ideas, create professional CVs, and produce short documentaries.
The second week focused on helping participants become more complete professionals. Sessions on branding taught them the importance of building a strong identity for businesses and personal projects. Additional training in Adobe Photoshop and Canva helped them improve their design abilities and prepare for real-world client work.
Beyond technical skills, the program also emphasized character development. Participants received training in public speaking, integrity, cybersecurity, and peaceful communication. These sessions were designed to help them communicate confidently, build trust with clients, protect themselves online, and resolve conflicts peacefully. In a region that has faced significant challenges in recent years, these lessons were just as important as the technical training itself.
The program also welcomed guest speakers and community leaders who shared valuable experiences and encouraged participants to continue investing in their education and personal growth. A representative from the Cameroon National Youth Council commended the participants for choosing learning and self-development during a holiday period when many young people focus only on leisure activities.
The training concluded on January 4, 2026, with a colorful graduation ceremony. The event celebrated the hard work and achievements of all participants. One of the trainees served as the Master of Ceremony, demonstrating the leadership and confidence gained during the program. Certificates were awarded to all graduates and volunteers, and participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity they had received.
The impact of the project was visible even before the training ended. Participants successfully designed their own graphics, edited videos, created digital content, and developed professional portfolios. More importantly, they left with confidence, practical skills, and a network of peers and mentors who will continue supporting their growth.
While the project was successful, it was not without challenges. The demand was much higher than anticipated, and many participants did not have access to powerful computers. To address this, the training focused on tools and technologies that could be accessed using smartphones. The holiday period also presented distractions, but interactive learning activities and practical assignments helped participants remain engaged throughout the program.
The end of the training was not the end of the journey. All participants were added to a professional WhatsApp community where mentors and volunteers continue to provide guidance, answer questions, and share opportunities.
Looking ahead, the Let’s Talk Tech team plans to expand its impact by organizing specialized technology training programs for single mothers and young people living in orphanages. These future initiatives aim to provide vulnerable groups with valuable digital skills that can help them achieve financial independence and create better futures for themselves and their families.
The success of this training has shown that young people in Bamenda are ready to learn, innovate, and lead. With the right support and opportunities, they can use technology not only to improve their own lives but also to create positive change in their communities.
